How To Make Glasses For Solar Eclipse

Homemade Solar Eclipse Viewing Glasses for Safe Solar Viewing

Crafting Your Own Eclipse Glasses

Prepare for the upcoming solar eclipse with confidence by constructing your own safe and effective eclipse viewing glasses. This simple guide will help you create these essential accessories for experiencing the celestial event without compromising your eye health.

Materials Required:

  • Dark construction paper or cardboard
  • Aluminum foil
  • Tape
  • Scissors
  • Empty cardboard tube (e.g., from paper towels)

Instructions:

  1. Cut two circles from the dark paper or cardboard, each slightly larger than the diameter of the cardboard tube.
  2. Cover the inside of one circle with aluminum foil, ensuring it is taut and smooth.
  3. Tape the aluminum foil-covered circle to the near end of the tube, creating your viewing window.
  4. Cut a small hole in the center of the other paper circle.
  5. Tape the paper circle with the hole to the far end of the tube, creating the pinhole aperture.
  6. Position the tube towards the sun, aligning the pinhole aperture with the viewing window.
  7. Look through the viewing window to observe the magnified image of the solar eclipse safely.

Note: Always double-check that the aluminum foil is intact and there are no gaps or pinholes before using these glasses. If you experience any discomfort or vision changes, discontinue use immediately and seek professional medical attention.

By following these instructions, you can create your own solar eclipse viewing glasses that meet the necessary safety standards and allow you to enjoy the celestial spectacle safely.
