How To Make Homemade Solar Eclipse Glasses

DIY Solar Eclipse Glasses: A Safe Way to View the Celestial Event

Materials You'll Need:

  • Cardboard or thick paper
  • Aluminum foil
  • Tape
  • Scissors
  • Pin or thumbtack

Step-by-Step Instructions:

  1. Create the viewing window: Cut a circle out of the cardboard or paper that is slightly larger than the opening of the viewing tube you will be using.
  2. Cover the window with aluminum foil: Place a smooth piece of aluminum foil over the hole and tape it securely around the edges.
  3. Poke a small hole in the foil: Flip the paper over and use a pin or thumbtack to poke a small hole in the center of the foil.
  4. Attach to viewing tube: Tape the paper circle to the end of the viewing tube near the viewing window. Make sure the foil side is facing the sun during the eclipse.

Your DIY solar eclipse glasses are now complete. Use them safely to enjoy the upcoming solar eclipse while protecting your eyes from harmful UV rays.

Important Safety Precautions:

  • Do not look directly at the sun through these glasses outside of the time of the eclipse.
  • Never look at the sun through these glasses without the aluminum foil cover.
  • Supervise children when using these glasses.
